Ryanair’s 60-Minute Check-In Rule: Who Is Affected from 10 November?

Ryanair airport check-in and bag drop move to 60 minutes before departure from 10 November 2026. Check who needs a desk visit and plan your airport transfer.

From 10 November 2026, Ryanair airport check-in and bag drop close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, instead of the general 40-minute cutoff. If you have a checked bag or need airport check-in, a transfer that gets you to the desk inside that final hour will be too late. Online check-in does not hand over your checked bag.

Travelling with hand luggage only, already checked in online, with a valid boarding pass and no required desk visit? You can continue through security towards your gate. But a restricted boarding pass, document-check instruction or required boarding-pass collection changes that answer: plan the desk visit first.

Dates: Ryanair announced the change on 22 April 2026. It applies from 10 November 2026. PrismGist published this guide on 7 October 2026; official sources were checked on 7 October 2026. This is an upcoming-rule planning guide.

Before and after: five separate airport milestones

Times are measured back from scheduled departure, using departure-airport local time.
MilestoneBefore 10 November 2026From 10 November 2026What it means for your plan
Airport check-in closesGenerally 40 minutes before departure*60 minutes before departureComplete the airport service before closing; do not aim to join the queue then.
Bag drop closesGenerally 40 minutes before departure*60 minutes before departureApplies even if online check-in is already complete.
Online check-in, website/appCloses 2 hours before departureUnchanged: 2 hours before departureComplete it early enough to resolve any error or verification instruction.
Recommended check-in/bag-drop desk arrivalAt least 2 hours before departureCurrent guidance still recommends at least 2 hoursThis is arrival guidance, not the desk closing time or a guarantee of sufficient time.
Required presence at boarding gateAt least 30 minutes before departureCurrent guidance still says at least 30 minutesAllow for security, any passport control and the walk to the gate.

*Follow any earlier deadline notified for your flight. Ryanair already specifies a 60-minute check-in desk cutoff at Moroccan airports due to local procedures; the general 40-to-60 comparison is not a promise that every airport previously allowed 40 minutes.

The dated transition FAQ supplies the new desk deadline. The Check-In FAQs explicitly keep web/app check-in at two hours. The arrival guidance separates the two-hour desk recommendation from the 30-minute gate requirement.

At our source check, the generic desk-timing FAQs still describe 40 minutes, unless notified otherwise. Read that current baseline alongside the specific November notice; do not carry the 40-minute figure into a flight departing on or after 10 November.

Decision tree: do you need to visit a desk?

  1. Do you have a checked bag? Yes → complete online check-in, then plan to reach bag drop early and hand the bag over before the applicable cutoff. Your app boarding pass does not remove bag drop. A self-service bag-drop route, if available at your airport, is not permission to use a later deadline.
  2. No checked bag, and you have a valid boarding pass with no desk instruction? → the bag-drop change does not add a desk visit. Plan airport arrival around the actual security route and gate requirement. It does not make arrival one hour before departure a safe universal plan.
  3. Does the app, boarding pass or booking require a desk visit? → allow time for that service before security, even with hand luggage only. Follow the specific instruction and confirm the relevant service deadline with Ryanair if unclear. Do not treat the absence of a suitcase as an exemption.

For example, Ryanair’s document-verification FAQ says unsuccessful online verification after the specified attempts can leave a restricted boarding pass needing manual airport verification. Requirements depend on your journey and documents; this is not a rule for every nationality. Its airport check-in FAQ also requires passengers departing Moroccan airports to check in online and collect a boarding pass at the desk.

A 09:00 flight: what actually moves?

Hypothetical example: compare a 09:00 scheduled departure on 9 November 2026 with one on 11 November 2026, at an airport using the general cutoff and with no earlier flight-specific instruction. All times below are local to the departure airport.

Step9 November11 November
Online check-in cutoff — finish earlier07:0007:00
Recommended presence at check-in/bag-drop desk07:00 or earlier07:00 or earlier
Airport check-in/bag drop closes — not an arrival target08:2008:00
Be at boarding gate at least 30 minutes before departureBy 08:30By 08:30
Scheduled departure09:0009:00

A transfer reaching the terminal at 08:05 is already past the new desk cutoff, before you even walk to bag drop. A transfer reaching it at 07:55 is also a poor desk plan: five minutes to closure is not evidence you can finish the service. Choose an earlier transfer using the worksheet below. Even before the change, 08:20 was a last service boundary, not recommended airport arrival.

Work backwards to choose your transfer

Write down your own values for each flight leg. Use scheduled departure, not an assumed later departure after a delay. For an early flight, subtracting travel time may put your leave-home time on the previous calendar day.

  1. Scheduled flight date/time (F): ______, in departure-airport local time. Applicable desk cutoff (D): ______. From 10 November, D = F minus 60 minutes for airport check-in/bag drop; check earlier specific instructions.
  2. Official recommended arrival: ______. Check your airport, terminal, Ryanair booking and any assistance/document instructions. For a desk visit, Ryanair’s current recommendation is desk arrival at least two hours before F; use an earlier target if your itinerary requires it.
  3. Desk queue/processing allowance (Q): ______. Use current airport/operator information and your circumstances. Also allow ______ for security, any passport control and walking to the gate. Work back from the gate requirement to see whether these stages demand an earlier desk target.
  4. Choose desk-arrival target (A): ______. It must satisfy the recommended timing and leave enough time to finish desk processing before D, then reach the gate on time. If D minus A does not cover Q plus your contingency, move A earlier. Treat D as an outer constraint.
  5. Transfer duration (T): ______; parking, terminal access and walk to desk (W): ______; travel disruption buffer (B): ______. Leave-home target = A − T − W − B. Check the dated timetable or booking against that target.

Illustrative arithmetic only: for the 09:00 flight, choose a 07:00 desk target. If you personally budget 50 minutes for transport, 15 minutes from drop-off/parking to the desk and 20 minutes for travel disruption, leave at 05:35. Those inputs are assumptions, not measured queue times or guaranteed safe margins. Separately check that your desk, security, passport-control and gate-walk allowances fit. Increase the margin when current airport guidance or your needs call for it.

Hand-luggage-only travellers with no desk requirement can replace A with their airport/security-entry target, derived from airport guidance and the gate requirement. Do not use the bag-drop cutoff as that target.

What to do now — and when to buy nothing

  • Check the departure date of each leg. An outbound before 10 November and a return after it can have different general desk cutoffs.
  • Confirm whether your booked bag is cabin or checked. If the two 10kg names are confusing, use our Ryanair 10kg cabin vs checked-bag guide for the product decision.
  • Complete online check-in before the separate two-hour cutoff, and read the actual boarding-pass and document instructions. Resolve errors early rather than waiting until travel to the airport.
  • Check the airport/terminal and transfer timetable, then move to an earlier service if your current plan lacks reasonable processing and disruption buffers.
  • If your existing plan already allows the required time, you may need no extra purchase. The deadline change alone does not mean you need a new bag, fare upgrade or queue product.

Priority boarding is not an extension of check-in or bag-drop hours. Security FastTrack addresses a different stage and cannot make an already-closed desk accept your bag. Our Fast Track vs Priority Boarding guide explains the distinction. Buying a cabin-bag option does not remove a required document or boarding-pass desk visit.

If you are independently comparing fare bundles, our Ryanair Basic vs Regular comparison owns that cost decision. Choose the bag and fare you need, then plan the airport journey for that choice.

Two questions before travel

Does checking in online let me drop a bag later?

No. Web/app check-in and handing a bag to the airline are separate steps. From 10 November 2026, airport bag drop closes 60 minutes before scheduled departure.

Can I rely on a delay or on being in the queue at closing?

Do not build your plan around either assumption. The announced rule refers to scheduled departure, and the desk guidance calls closing strict. Follow any explicit flight-specific instructions from Ryanair; a queue position is not completed check-in or bag acceptance.
