Last verified: 29 August 2026 against Glasgow Airport’s current hand-baggage guidance.
Short answer: Glasgow Airport still limits each ordinary hand-luggage liquid container to 100ml or less. You do not need a separate clear liquids bag, and compliant liquids and electronics can stay inside your cabin bag for screening. Glasgow Airport says there is no airport-security limit on the number of compliant 100ml containers, although airline cabin-bag limits still apply.
Container size versus total quantity
| Question | Glasgow rule |
|---|---|
| Maximum ordinary container capacity | 100ml |
| Partly empty 150ml bottle | Not allowed through as an ordinary liquid; container capacity is over 100ml |
| Number of compliant 100ml containers | No airport-security number limit stated by Glasgow Airport |
| Separate one-litre clear bag | Not required under the current hand-baggage guidance |
Glasgow security rules at a glance
| Item | Rule at Glasgow Airport |
|---|---|
| Liquids, gels, creams, pastes and aerosols | Each container must have a capacity of 100ml or less |
| Transparent liquids bag | Not required; compliant containers can stay in your cabin bag |
| Laptops and other electronics | Glasgow’s current security guidance says they can remain in the bag |
| Coat and cabin bag | Place them in a security tray |
| Coins, keys and small items | Put them in your coat or cabin bag before screening |
| Medicines, baby food and baby milk | Exceptions can apply; be ready for separate checks and evidence where required |
Always follow the security officer’s instructions at your lane. Equipment, operational procedures and additional screening can change without notice.
The Glasgow Airport liquid limit
The rule is based on the capacity printed on the container, not the amount left inside it. A 150ml bottle with only 50ml remaining is still a container larger than 100ml and should go in checked baggage.
What counts as a liquid?
- Water and other drinks
- Creams, lotions, oils, perfume, mascara and lip gloss
- Sprays, shaving foam, hairspray and aerosol deodorant
- Toothpaste, gels and contact-lens solution
- Soup, jam, honey, syrups and other liquid or semi-liquid foods
Do laptops come out at Glasgow Airport?
Glasgow Airport’s main current security guidance states that electronic items can remain in cabin baggage. Place the bag in a tray and follow the instructions shown at your lane. If an officer asks you to remove a laptop, tablet or another item for a separate check, their instruction takes priority.
Exceptions to the 100ml rule
Essential medicines and special dietary liquids
UK rules allow essential liquid medicines and liquids for special dietary requirements in containers up to 2 litres. For liquid medicine in a container larger than 100ml, carry proof that it is prescribed to you, such as a prescription or a letter from your doctor. Security staff may open or test the item.
Baby milk and baby food
Baby milk and baby food needed for the journey may qualify for an exception. Bring a reasonable amount for the trip and allow extra time in case security selects it for testing.
Duty-free liquids
Liquids over 100ml bought after security can normally travel with you if they remain sealed in the security bag with the receipt visible. Restrictions can apply on some routes and connections, so ask the shop before buying if you will pass through security again.
A 60-second packing check
- Read the capacity label on every liquid, gel, cream, paste and aerosol.
- Move any ordinary container larger than 100ml to checked baggage, even if partly empty.
- Keep medical evidence easy to reach if carrying essential liquid medicine over 100ml.
- Put keys, coins and other small metal items into your coat or bag before the tray.
- Check your airline’s separate cabin-bag, battery and unusual-item limits.
Connecting after Glasgow? Check every checkpoint
Glasgow’s rule only covers the Glasgow checkpoint. A connecting airport, return airport or another terminal may use different procedures. Your practical route limit is the strictest checkpoint you must pass through.
Carrying batteries too? Use the Power Bank Flight Checker before packing a power bank or spare lithium battery.
